Welcome to Spotlight with Shonda Scott, a community affairs talk show that highlights inspiring stories in the San Francisco Bay Area. We feature guests such as the city’s mayor, Ambassador Andrew Young, Congresswoman Barbara Lee, Grammy Award Winner D’Wayne Wiggins,and many more influential guests. In 2013 the show broadcasted a record of 100 shows. In 2017 Spotlight is proud to broadcast on KOFY TV in northern California as well as on our local KDOL TV 27 in Oakland, CA.

If you look at what makes the Bay Area so vibrant, it’s the dedication of everyday citizens and our ability to lift each other up. I started Spotlight because I’m constantly in awe of the people I meet in the community. Spotlight is about highlighting leaders—from public figures to unsung heroes—and giving them a voice to expand their platform and help even more people in the process. Our goal is to shine a Spotlight on the people making the Bay Area brighter.

Our Host

Shonda Scott is an Alameda County Women’s Hall of Fame Inductee, and 2017 Enterprising Women Magazine's Enterprising Woman of Year. In 2016, Shonda was awarded a Stevie Award for Female Entrepreneur of the Year. In 2012 Shonda was an appointee of President Obama’s Platform Committee, and served on the inaugural committee of community advisors to the White House Council for Women and Girls. She is a former Commissioner and Chair of Alameda County Human Relations Commission. Shonda is a UCLA Alumni, and a lifetime member of CAL Alumni Association.

#Spotlight Grateful Gatherings.
Emmy Award-winning television producers, Donna Somerville and Chris Flitter, share their path to launching Grateful Gatherings, an organization that helps families get on their feet and create homes. What started out as a volunteer effort to help one family, has grown into 1,700 donors several chapters.
#Spotlight NBA Cares
The Oakland Warriors and Kaiser Permanente partnered with NBA Cares to open a new Learn & Play Zone at Westlake Middle School in Oakland, CA. The Learn & Play Zone provides a safe place for children to play sports and explore extracurricular interests. Go behind the scenes of the opening where Warriors players, executives, and family members welcomed the community, including Kevin Durant’s mom who gave cooking lessons to kids.
#Spotlight Celebrity Chef Nikki Shaw
Celebrity chef, Nikki Shaw, is taking a hands-on approach to addressing childhood obesity and obesity within the African American community. She talks us through the course she teaches to students and her work with Beyond Emancipation, an organization that focuses on working with individuals who were once foster children but are now adults, providing them with the tools to feed their families healthy meals. Additionally, she’s on a campaign to educate African American men about the signs of heart disease and to prevent heart attacks through healthy eating.
